چکیده
A c'TPERclinical evaluation of patients with severe aortic insufficiency, it has become evideiit that differentiation of the Austin Flint murmur from that of imitral stenosis is possible iln the majority of cases.1-) If carefully searched for, all of our l)atients with severe aortic insufficiency have all apical diastolic ullll)le (so-called Auistin Flint murinur). By utilization of the clinical features derived from a careful history, plhlysical exaiInination, x-rays, and electroeardiography, it is possible in the majority of cases to (letermline whether the apical diastolic runible reh)resellts an Austin Flint niurniur or the

The Austin Flint Murmur and the a Wave of the Apexcardiogram in Aortic Regurgitation
Hemodynamic data from 45 patients with either aortic regurgitation (with and without the Austin Flint murmur) or aortic regurgitation and mitral stenosis were correlated with the a-wave percentage amplitude of the apexcardiogram. Changes in the a wave correlated well with corresponding changes in left heart pressures but not with variations in volume. Of 15 patients in whom the ratio of the a w...
متن کاملEchocardiography of the mitral valve in aortic valve disease.
Ultrasonic echocardiograms from the anterior cusp of the mitral valve have been obtained in 75 patients with aortic regurgitation in whom there was haemodynamic or surgical confirmation, or both, of the state of the mitral valve. Coincident mitral stenosis could be recognized from the echocardiogram in all cases by a slow diastolic closure rate and widening of the echo from the anterior mitral ...

متن کاملDiastolic murmurs in the presence of Starr-Edwards mitral prosthesis.
Diastolic murmurs associated with the Starr-Edwards mitral prosthesis have not been described previously. In this report, five patients with mitral prostheses are described in whom apical mid-diastolic and presystolic murmurs resulted from two different causes. Three patients had clots obstructing the prosthetic orifice. The other two had normally functioning protheses and moderately severe aor...
متن کاملDoppler and echocardiographic characteristics of patients having an Austin Flint murmur.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to investigate the genesis of the Austin Flint murmur using Doppler and echocardiographic imaging. METHODS AND RESULTS A total of 51 patients having significant aortic insufficiency and an anatomically normal mitral valve were evaluated. They were divided into two groups; 30 patients had an audible Austin Flint murmur (AFM+) and 21 did not (AFM-). All ...
